Figure Skating Disciplines
We have various figure skating clubs operating from The Ice Station. These clubs are all affiliated to the South African Figure Skating Association (SAFSA) and form a starting point for the sport of figure skating, ice dance, and synchronized ice skating.
Singles
Singles skating with the emphasis on individual athleticism consists of technical jumps, spins and step sequences along with artistic choreography. Skaters showcase their individual athleticism and demonstrate their flexibility and control to achieve the appearance of effortless perfection.
Ice Dance
Couples Ice Dance involves a partnership of male and female, however the ISU has now also included Solo Ice Dance. Skaters perform intricate dance patterns with exceptional musical interpretation and flawless technical skating skills. Couples Ice Dance includes various dance lifts, whereas Solo Ice Dance includes graceful edge elements.
Synchronized Skating
This is a team sport with between 8 to 20 skaters performing together in unison. It includes high speeds, intricate formations and precise footwork. Their programs can also include various jumps, spins and lifts.
Many of our skaters have successfully represented our country at international competitions of various levels. So if you have a dream of achieving your national colours in a dynamic sport then this is where it all starts.
